Private Lives (1931)

Comedy • NR • Directed by: Sidney Franklin • 84 minutes

When a divorced couple, who have just remarried--to different spouses--discover that they share adjoining honeymoon suites, the passion that originally brought them together reignites... along with the quarrels that tore them apart in playwright Noel Coward's sparklingly witty Private Lives. They just can't help it: Amanda (Academy Award winner Norma Shearer) and Elyot (Robert Montgomery) are meant for each other. The only problem is she's married to Victor (Reginald Denny) and he's married to Sibyl (Una Merkel). Now, through bickering, betrayal and some of the funniest dialogue ever written, this foursome ensconced in a fabulous Art Deco Swiss resort will realize that Amanda should be married to Elyot... and Sibyl ought to wed Victor...
